The Benefits of Starting Therapy During Summer

Longer days, warmer weather, and a break from your usual routine do more than lift your spirits — they might also create the perfect opening to prioritize your mental health.

Summer has a way of softening the edges of daily life. Many people naturally feel less stressed and more optimistic this time of year, and that shift in mood can actually make it easier to engage with therapy, not harder. You don't have to be in crisis to start. Beginning when you're feeling a bit more grounded gives you the space to build skills before life gets busy again.

Slower schedules and summer breaks also remove one of the most common barriers to starting therapy: time. Without the usual rush of packed school mornings, evening activities, and back-to-back obligations, it's easier to fit regular sessions into your week without feeling like you're squeezing one more thing in. Therapists also tend to have more openings this time of year — meaning you're more likely to get the time slot that actually works for you.

If you've been putting off making that first call, summer is a natural reset. The conditions are good. The time is there. And starting now means you'll have months of progress behind you before fall arrives.

I am offering an exposure group Tuesday and Thursdays throughout the summer for those wanting to jumpstart their ERP treatment.

Starting therapy in the summer has many benefits, just like walking on the beach!
